There arose, therefore, a discussion between the two and, as a result, Augustine wrote this treatise titled De coniugiis adulterinis, between 419 and 420, and referred Pollentius to the explanation he had given in the work De Serm. in Monte I, 14,39, with respect to the exegesis of 1 Cor 7 (the Pauline privilege, *adultery and *matrimony) and Mt 5:31–32; 19:9 (marriage in the OT and the NT).
